Survey Crew Chief- Raleigh

Tower Engineering Professionals is seeking a full-time Survey Crew Chief in our Survey department. As a Crew Chief, you will serve as an integral member of our Survey team. We have openings for full-time Survey Crew Chiefs in our Raleigh, NC office.  The ideal candidate will be willing to travel and work out of town occasionally for short periods (1 – 2 weeks).  Candidate should have the following skills and requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 4-5 years survey experience
  • Familiar with survey equipment (robotics and GPS) and procedures

Essential Functions

  • Supervise field crew to ensure the safety and efficiency of work completed

  • Efficiently operates survey instruments, including electronic total station, digital level, GPS equipment, robotics, 3D laser scanner, and data collectors
  • Reads and interprets deeds, plats, plans, and specifications
  • Operates and maintains a variety of survey equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • Sets priorities and meets deadlines for each project and/or job
  • Identifies and implements effective courses of action to complete work assignments in a safe manner
  • Maintains files of maps, documents, and other records as needed

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Outdoor work (may stand for long periods, walk long distances, occasionally in non-ideal weather)  
  • Willing to travel – day trips, overnight trips, occasional extended trips
  • Some project sites may require long drives to reach

  • Establishes and sets points on construction stakeout projects (curb and gutter, drop inlets, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, waterline, bridges, etc.).

  • Trains lower-level techs in using survey equipment, survey methods, and safety standards.

  • Experience with small boat handling preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Pre-employment drug screening.
  • Some Travel.

Vessel Operator

Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate small vessels for the purpose of hydrographic surveys.
  • Perform/assist with vessel and trailer maintenance.
  • Assist with data processing and mapping.
  • Assist with topographic survey data collection.

Requirements:

  • Proficient boat handling skills
  • Captain's license or ability to sit for the exam within 6 months.
  • Experience with Hypack software preferred.
  • Proficient swimmer.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Pre-employment drug screening.
