Survey Instrument Personnel - Raleigh, NC

CH Engineering, PLLC is seeking qualified candidates for survey instrument personnel for our Raleigh, NC office. CH Engineering offers the opportunity for professional fulfillment through working with highly trained staff. CH Engineering is a 28-person firm with a strong backlog in surveying.
Responsibilities for Instrument Person position includes: 

  • Supports field data collection efforts by operating surveying equipment, collecting data, and assisting Crew Chief's in their daily operations.
  • Record accurate and clear surveying notes.
  • Experience with conventional, and GPS surveying techniques, along with experience in boundary surveying, topographic surveying, control networks, aerial control and NCDOT projects.
  • Knowledge of Leica, Topcon and Carlson hardware is strongly preferred.
  • Must have valid driver's license.
  •  Must be able to work out of town during the week.
  • Qualified candidates will have a minimum three (3) years of related experience.
  • Must be able to work in the field and able to walk long distances on irregular terrain while carrying equipment weighing approximately 25 lbs., and be able to push and pull manhole lids weighing approximately 80 lbs.

The successful candidate will supervise Survey crew members; keep accurate and complete field notes; communicate with office staff, train team members; and operate Leica robotic instrument, operate Leica total station, Leica data collector, Leica GPS (fast static, RTK and VRS), auto level and download data into computers each night.

NCDPS - Emergency Management 


State of NC Internship Program – Jurisdictional Boundaries (county/state boundaries) (Hybrid) - Wake County, NC

Description of Work 

Project Objective: Provide support to the NC Geodetic Survey staff to perform a variety of surveys to support the county/state boundary program, floodplain mapping program, Flood Inundation Mapping Alert Network (FIMAN), aerial imagery and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) projects, surveys to support the 2022 datum change, height modernization surveys and mapping using  an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS). 

Major Tasks to be Performed: Provide support to NC Geodetic Survey’s staff to perform county boundary surveys to reestablish county and state boundaries, Flood Inundation Mapping Alert Network (FIMAN) vertical control surveys, mapping using a Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS), quality control surveys for aerial imagery and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) elevation data, and height modernization surveys. 

Final Product or Outcome Anticipated: Perform research, field data collection, and map production to support the development of final report, exhibits, and survey plats to reestablish county/state boundaries, benchmarks at FIMAN gauge locations, a variety of photogrammetry mapping products, aerial imagery and LiDAR elevation quality control reports, geodetic control projects submitted to the National Geodetic Survey. 

Academic Majors Desired: Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, and Civil Engineering Technology

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • An applicant must be a permanent North Carolina resident attending a college, university, law school, community college or technical institute in North Carolina or a North Carolina resident attending an equivalent institution out of state.

Position Purpose

Managerial position to assist with operations and communication between office and field personnel, as well as assist Project Managers with overall project scope. 

Essential Functions + Responsibilities

  • Advanced level survey CAD Technician duties such as creating surfaces, managing coordinate files, deed plotting and orienting, etc.
  • Deed research.
  • Creating field instructions and exhibits for the field crews. As well as providing real time support to the field crews.
  • Reviewing daily field data to help control scope.
  • Preliminary involvement of ALTA surveys.
  • Communicate with survey Project Managers regarding projects, staff concerns, equipment needs, safety issues, etc.
  • Communicate with Project Managers from other departments about projects. 

Qualifications

  • 5 years office experience
  • Previous field experience as a party chief
