We are looking for a crew chief for our projects in the Raleigh, North Carolina area. The Survey Crew Chief will manage field aspects of projects and work closely in collaboration with team.
Responsibilities
- Perform construction layout such as for setting lines, the layout of concrete formwork, pile layout, earthwork cut and fill layout, as-building for the project
- Run and supervise a one- or two-team field crew
- Manage survey schedule and subcontractors
- Run calculations and volume analysis
- Prepare field notes, sketches and photos
- Collect and code data for topographic, utility, structural monitoring, boundary, wetlands, other types of surveys
- Utilize robotic total stations, optical/digital levels, and GPS
- Perform daily downloads of data collector files

As one of the leaders in the department, the Professional Surveyor (PLS) will be responsible for fostering and growing client relationships and developing and monitoring project scope, budget, schedule, and quality control for survey projects from the proposal stage through final deliverables.
This person will be charged with providing oversight of survey activities to ensure assignments meet performance goals, effectively coordinating and communicating with other project team members, and providing detailed instruction to survey support personnel. Experience with private development and municipal projects desirable. NCDOT and transportation project experience a plus.
Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to) the following:
- Compiling and researching projects as needed prior to starting work.
- Analyzing deeds and researching materials for the production of the survey.
- Assuring that all projects stay on schedule and within budget and discussing any issues/discrepancies with Supervisor if needed.
- Coordinating with the field crew supervisor your project needs and working with field staff to assure the desired product from the field.
- Prioritizing projects and their schedules for yourself and staff.
- Coordinating QA/QC scheduling.

Requirements for the position:
- 5+ years’ experience in surveying and project management

The North Carolina Geodetic Survey (NCGS), which is administratively located in the Department of Public Safety/North Carolina Emergency Management/ Hazard Mitigation Program Support intends to award multiple Qualifications-Based Selection (QBS) contracts to qualified private surveying firms (henceforth referred to as the “Vendor”) for the purpose of performing aerial imagery quality control (QC) surveys utilizing Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and traditional survey methods to support the Statewide Digital Orthoimagery Project. Note: The purpose of the orthoimagery project, which is funded by the North Carolina 911 Board (http://www.nc911.nc.gov/), is to collect seamless aerial imagery for use by local 911 agencies; local, state and federal agencies; and the public. The work required by this Request for Qualification (RFQ) will consist of performing horizontal and vertical QC survey projects (adhering to HMPS-NCGS stipulated standards and specifications).

In this position, you will perform responsible technical engineering support work in mapping, surveying and other technical and paraprofessional engineering tasks related to roads, sidewalks, water and sewer lines and related infrastructure.
Employees in this class design specific infrastructure improvements, updating maps, surveying, and other technical and paraprofessional engineering tasks. Employees perform computer-aided design work including design computations and mapping; performs field work for cadastral engineering surveys, recording of legal documents, and citizen and developer communications. Working with an internal team of surveyors, planners and engineers, our Field Surveyors are responsible for site improvement stake outs, boundary surveys, topographic surveys, house-line stake outs and final as-built surveys.

Qualifications
- Three to fifteen years of experience in Survey site layout
- Working knowledge of construction layout, cutsheets, survey calculations and data collection
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work as a one-person crew utilizing robotic and GPS equipment

NC A&T UNIVERSITY
Part-Time Instructor / Geomatics Program
Primary Purpose of Position
The Department of Built Environment is accepting applications for two Part-Time Instructors for the Geomatic Program. Part-Time Instructors are hired on a semester-by-semester basis to teach courses in Geomatics/Land Surveying delivered by the Built Environment Department’s Geomatics program. The Department is currently looking for two candidates to teach a two course sequence in 1) Automated Surveying and Mapping (Fall) and Residential Subdivision Design (Spring); 2) Satellite Positioning (Fall) and Geodesy (Spring). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: teaching online courses, willingness to participant in Learning Management Systems training, participating in data collection and assessment of student learning for ABET, and submitting teaching materials as part of semester review. Candidates will work closely with the Geomatics Coordinator for assessments as well as faculty with subject matter expertise.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Built Environment supports over 175 undergraduate majors in the programs of Construction Management, Environmental Health and Safety and, Geomatics. The courses taught in the Geomatics program area are at the undergraduate level and include Automated Surveying and Mapping, Residential Subdivision Design, Geodesy and Satellite Positioning.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates must have a Master’s degree in Geomatics or related discipline at time of application with five years’ experience in the profession of land surveying or related field. Sequence 1 requires experience in using AutoCAD Civil 3D for residential design and experience in designing subdivisions. Sequence 2 requires experience in using GNSS equipment and basic geodetic techniques.

Candidates with Master’s Degree and 5 years professional experience and with background in Geomatics or related discipline. Professional licensure is preferred.
