Full Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Land Surveyor specializing in Construction Layout to join our team in North Carolina. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in land surveying with a focus on NCDOT construction, residential and commercial projects. This position plays a vital role in ensuring accurate site measurements, existing conditions verification and layout for civil construction activities.

Responsibilities:

Perform Construction Staking:

  • Design Storm Drainage systems utilizing provided NCDOT roadway plans for submittal and approval prior to field layout.
  • Stake wet utilities, clearing limits, roadway alignments, slope stakes and finish grades including concrete and asphalt paving.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to coordinate layout activities effectively.

Boundary Surveys:

  • Conduct boundary surveys to establish property lines, easements, and right-of-ways.
  • Prepare survey reports, plats, and legal descriptions in compliance with state regulations and industry standards.
  • Resolve boundary-related issues and discrepancies as needed.

Topographic Surveys:

  • Conduct topographic surveys to gather data on elevation, contours, and existing features of the land.
  • Generate detailed maps and reports to support site design and development processes.
  • Utilize surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS, and drones to collect accurate data.

Construction Site Monitoring:

  • Monitor construction progress and verify that work is performed in accordance with approved plans.

  • Identify and address any discrepancies or issues that may affect project quality or timelines.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of survey data, field notes, and project documentation.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or relative experience.

The State Highway Administration's (SHA) Office of Highway Development, Plats and Surveys Division (Baltimore City) is recruiting for a Geodetic Mapping Manager (Transportation Engineering Manager I) position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed in the link. This is a position specific recruitment. Nature of work: The Geodetic Mapping Manager performs managerial, supervisory, administrative, and highly specialized transportation engineering work in support of the Plats and Surveys Division’s (PSD) operations in the Office of Highway Development (OHD).   This position directly manages Senior Area Engineers, Area Engineers, and Transportation Engineers in the Geodetic and CADD Processing Section (GCP) of PSD.  This position will manage and coordinate the distribution of geodetic control and CADD processing assignments state-wide through the Area Engineers, Transportation Engineers, and consultants that are assigned to the GCP Section and will directly manage and perform a variety of complex assignments as a Project Manager.  After assigning projects, the Geodetic Mapping Manager will establish project schedules, set production priorities, and monitor production to ensure project schedules and deliverable standards are met.  The Geodetic Mapping Manager will provide quality assurance reviews during project development and quality control reviews for projects managed by other Area and Transportation Engineers within PSD.  This position will develop geodetic and CADD management standards and ensure that the best survey practices are performed by all Area and Transportation Engineers, perform research of existing survey data, review and update PSD CADD manuals, and recommend geodetic software and hardware procurements to division leadership. In addition, the Geodetic Mapping Manager will be responsible for training and mentoring Area and Transportation Engineers within the GCP to ensure all assignments are scoped, processed, mapped, modeled, reviewed, and delivered in an accurate and professional manner. Under the direction of the Division Chief and/or the Assistant Division Chief, the Geodetic Mapping Manager will be responsible for managing specialized and more complex geodetic and CADD processing projects as assigned.  Lastly, this position must accurately assess the complexity of the processing assignments and dedicate the appropriate resources necessary to complete the assignments in a timely manner and to ensure a quality product.

Individuals with time working as an Instrument Operator, Party Chief, or a higher-level position in land surveying or geomatic engineering are encouraged to apply.
