Have you researched a plat from the Register of Deeds website that you can’t read, due to poor scan quality? Most likely the text bled together, making the numerals 6, 8 or 9 merely an educated guess. The registers of deeds throughout the state, have various levels of resolution on their scanners and they have various levels of staff experience. These 2 factors alone will produce different levels or clarity.

E-recording is the solution to this problem. The scans recorded in counties through the e-recording process have clearer records, and greater accuracy for those following in someone else’s footsteps.

E-recording is also economical because of the time needed to acquire all signatures. It takes time to go to the courthouse, the planning department, the review officer and the property owners to get the necessary signatures, to record a plat. With e-recording, all signatures can be attained from the convenience of your office. The security of the plat’s integrity is also in the surveyor’s full control because a PLS is not relying on third parties to submit the plat for recording.

Take the challenge and click on the links below to see the difference between a real-life example of a plat prepared digitally to e-record versus the actual scan because the county doesn’t participate in e-recording. Contact your register of deeds today and see if they are open to starting to E-record plats.
