Description | Support the PAC & Earn PDHs!Join us for a half-day seminar to support the PAC and earn your PDHs! Hear from industry experts, strengthen your network, stay informed, and invest in both your career and the profession's advocacy. You will receive 1 hr. each of Ethics & Standards of Practice, meeting the annual NCBEES requirement. All proceeds from this event will go to support the PAC. There are only 50 seats available, so register early!Please Call the Office to Register - Only personal credit cards or checks may be used to register as this is a PAC event. Instructors: Chan Bryant: Chan Bryant is the Chief Risk Officer at WithersRavenel, where he leads risk management strategies and ensures alignment with industry standards. With a background in environmental engineering, Chan brings a wealth of experience, helping deliver quality engineering solutions while mitigating risks. Tim Bowes, PLS: Tim earned his AAS Degree in Agriculture from NC State in 1984 and Surveying Certificate from Wake Technical Community College in 1988. He became a PLS in NC in 1990 and is a graduate of the Otis A. Jones Institute. In 1999. Tim co-founded BBM Associates, Inc. as a Surveying, Engineering, and Land Planning Business in the Raleigh area, where he was a Principal and Survey Operations Manager until BBM merged with VHB Engineering in 2016. He joined WithersRavenel, Inc. in 2021, where he currently serves as a Senior Delivery Officer. Ravi Soneja, CMT-LiDAR: Mr. Soneja is the UAS Program Manager with McKim & Creed, Inc., responsible for the implementation of UAS lidar and digital imagery technology to support the firm's surveying and aerial mapping projects. Mr. Soneja has worked on a wide variety of aerial mapping projects utilizing USGS Lidar Base Specifications as well as ASPRS Positional Accuracy Standards. As an ASPRS Certified Mapping Technologist in Lidar, he is highly experienced in the acquisition and processing of airborne lidar. Mr. Soneja has extensive experience in acquisition planning, survey control configuration, lidar & imagery acquisition, lidar calibration, pre/post-processing, and final deliverables. Mr. Soneja currently serves ASPRS as the Vice President of the Potomac Region and the Assistant Director for the Primary Data Acquisition Division (PDAD). In addition, Mr. Soneja is closely involved in the development of solutions-based approaches to help clients meet the needs of their unique projects. Steve Amos, PLS, CFS: Steve is a North Carolina Professional Land Surveyor with more than 25 years of comprehensive land surveying experience, including 15 years managing Geomatics operations on a number of significant surveying projects across the state. His experience extends to survey staff management, survey compliance programs, and survey quality control in both the private and public sector markets. His specialties include overseeing survey operations, including ALTA, boundary, topographic, route, as-built, and construction surveys throughout North Carolina. He is also experienced in SUE and UAV surveys. Steve is a licensed Remote Pilot – sUAS Airman with the Federal Aviation Administration and is a Certified Floodplain Surveyor. He has served on the Gaston County Park and Recreation Advisory Board for over a decade. Outside of work, Steve enjoys spending time with his family, serving his community with his church, and being a Kansas City Barbecue Society Certified Master Judge. He has participated in over 80 contests in 11 states. |

This presentation will take an in-depth look at the NEW actual Board cases to see what went wrong, resulting in a complaint filed with the Board of Examiners. We will discuss the facts of the case and analyze what the licensee could or should have done differently that may have avoided the complaint. Topics covered during this presentation will include ethics, standards of practice, how to protect the public, and the best ways to avoid a complaint. *This will provide ethics and standards of practice PDHs for two years. Please keep in mind that if you carry over one hour of each, then you will need to exceed the annual requirement of 15 PDHs by 2 additional hours for the current year. This seminar will explore the North Carolina Department of Transportation's (NCDOT) response to a significant weather event that caused widespread infrastructure damage across the western part of the state. We will examine the challenges faced in restoring critical transportation networks, focusing on several key impacted regions. The presentation will highlight the NCDOT’s Location and Survey unit’s efforts in assessing and addressing damage in areas including mountainous terrain and river systems. Specific attention will be given to the impact on major roadways and numerous bridge structures. This session aims to provide a broad overview of the response and recovery process, emphasizing the NCDOT's commitment to restoring connectivity and ensuring public safety. Instructors: Richard M. (Mike) Benton, PLS was born and raised in Goldsboro, NC. He graduated from Eastern Wayne High School in 1976 and attended the college transfer program at Wayne Community College from 1976-1978. He graduated from Coastal Carolina Community College with an AAS degree in Surveying Technology in 1982. In 1991, after living and working several years in Greenville, NC, Mike moved back home to Goldsboro and established Benton & Associates Land Surveying and Mapping, PA. Mike has been an active member of the North Carolina Society of Surveyors (NCSS) since 1991, serving as the chairman of the Formal Education Committee from 1993-2000, President of NCSS in 2003, and the North Carolina Delegate to the Board of Governors for the National Society of Professional Surveyors from 2008-2013. On November 06, 2012, Mike was appointed by Governor Beverly Perdue to serve on the Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors Keith Honeycutt, PE, PLS has over 32 years of service with the North Carolina Department of Transportation and holds both the North Carolina Professional Engineer and the North Carolina Professional Land Surveyor registrations. In addition, he holds the North Carolina Certified Public Manager certification. Mr. Honeycutt served in various roles, including Division Locating Engineer and Eastern Regional Engineer. As a member of the Senior Management of the Location and Surveys Unit, he assisted in directing a large and multi-functional Technical Services Business Unit in engineering and geomatics. Mr. Honeycutt was responsible for managing and overseeing the planning and coordination of multiple geomatics operations between North Carolina’s Eastern Region Division Field Offices and Private Sector Engineering Firms, including all Sonar Bathymetry Surveys Statewide. He served as Location & Survey’s subject matter expert on storm response for Eastern North Carolina. Mr. Honeycutt is currently employed with GEL Solutions. He serves on behalf of Location and Surveys as the point of contact for Western North Carolina recoveries and Project Manager for all Western North Carolina Hurricane Helene surveys and mapping. |
