Surveying CAD Technician - Asheville, NC

Wes Cole Land Surveying, PA is seeking a qualified individual who will perform CAD technician tasks. This is a great opportunity to gain progressive experience under the direction of multiple licensed surveyors. The qualified individual will ideally be on track to licensure as a professional land surveyor. 

The qualified candidate must be competent with the following:

  • Effectively communicate with clients and colleagues
  • Ability to operate AutoCAD with Carlson Survey Software or similar
  • Perform deed/records research
  • Plot deeds/plats in AutoCAD

Minimum Qualifications Required:
HS Diploma or G.E.D.
1+ years of progressive experience as a CAD technician in surveying or related field.
Valid NC drivers license with good driving record.

Summit Design and Engineering Services has immediate openings for a SURVEY INSTRUMENT OPERATOR in our Hillsborough and Raleigh office. We are seeking individuals to perform journey level survey work involved in performing preliminary as-builts, control, topography, boundary, NCDOT location and ALTA surveys for projects. 

 Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Performs construction stakeout and associated preliminary topographic survey, boundary, ALTA and construction surveys for public and private clients
  • Operate and maintain various surveying instruments to measure and verify elevations, angles and distances
  • Perform mathematical calculations to establish and locate reference points, property corners, vertical and horizontal reference points and line staking for projects

Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to) the following:

  • The Crew Chief is the individual that represents the company in the field. The Party Chief is responsible for making sure that the crew and equipment are ready for the next assignment.
  • The Crew Chief must ensure that the work is performed to company standards and that the results are presented in a clear and concise format
  • The Crew Chief is responsible to lead the field effort for various surveying tasks including; construction, topographic, boundary, right-of-way, and control survey projects
  • Assign and monitor work, and provide input for evaluation of field survey crew members

Survey Manager - Raleigh, NC

This Survey Office Manager position is to develop and expand our Survey and Mapping/Geomatics Division in North Carolina.  Additional responsibilities include fostering and growing client relationships; developing and monitoring project scope, budget, schedule and quality control for survey projects from the proposal stage through final deliverables; providing oversight of survey activities to ensure assignments meet performance goals; effectively coordinating and communicating with other project team members; and providing detailed instruction to survey support personnel.  Experience with private development and municipal projects desirable. NCDOT and transportation project experience a plus. 

Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to) the following:

  • 5+ years’ experience in surveying and project management
  • Compile and research projects as needed prior to starting work.
  • Analyze deeds and research materials for the production of the survey.
  • Assure that all projects stay on schedule and within budget, and discuss any issues/discrepancies with Supervisor if needed.
  • Coordinate with field crew supervisor your project needs and work with field staff to assure desired product from the field.
  • Prioritize projects and their schedules for yourself and staff.
  • Coordinate QA/QC scheduling.
  • Monitor each project to ensure that client is satisfied with service and product and that all aspects of the scope have been performed fully and correctly.

Requirements:

  • Licensed Registered Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in the State of North Carolina.
  • Experience with Bentley InRoads, MicroStation and GEOPAK including NCDOT or equivalent transportation surveying project management experience and familiarity with NCDOT Location & Surveys processes and standards. Subsurface Utility Engineering experience a plus.

Survey Party Chief (Charlotte Water/Engineering) - Charlotte, NC

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will serve as a vital member of the Survey Section and work closely with other Divisions of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities’ Engineering Department.

Must have a minimum of 5 year’s experience organizing and coordinating the work of a survey party to perform water and sewer route surveys, construction surveys, boundary surveys, and control surveys.   • Daily processing of ROW or design survey data • Perform deed research, deed plotting and map checks • Prepare survey plats and drawings, legal descriptions and alignment drawings • Provide technical office support for up to 3 field crews • Perform quality control checks of plats and drawings prepared by other technicians • Ensure schedules and productivity objectives set by supervisor for survey deliverables are achieved.
  • Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
  • 5+ years field and office experience in route survey projects, boundary analysis, DTM projects, and construction layout
  • Excellent computer and technical skills, including Auto CAD Civil 3D and Trimble Business Center
  • S.I.T Certification is a plus however, is not necessary.
  • Proficient in technical math, including geometry, trigonometry and coordinate transformations.
  • Experience with MicroStation is a plus however, is not necessary
  • Strong listening, writing and verbal communication skills
  • Proven work history, strong work ethic and team-player attitude

This position reports to the Survey Manager, his delegates, and is responsible for operation of various types of survey equipment for field survey efforts. Hours will vary dependent upon workloads and project needs. This position based from our Kennesaw location, but extensive and long term southeastern regional travel will be required.

We are looking for a CAD Technician to join our Engineering Services group.  This candidate will contribute to the team through the production of civil engineering drawings and design calculations for site and land development projects, water main design, sanitary sewer design, water and wastewater treatment plant drawings, GPS data collection and downloads. 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:  3 to 5 years

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:  Two-year Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology or AutoCAD drafting.  3-5 years’ land development work, water and sewer experience preferred, entry level considered.  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Experience with AutoCAD, CAD standards and Excel. 

Duties include, but are not limited to:  Development of master plan/infrastructure schematic and detailed technical drawings from sketches.  To assist with the design of water and sewer mains, mass grading, roadway vertical design, erosion control, permit submittals and storm drainage.  Plan/Profile drawings and utility conflict resolution.  Plan production is a critical role of this position. Assist with the creation of utility enabling packages in conjunction with mechanical utilities.  Candidates should be prepared to provide work samples.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • NC Professional Land Surveyors License required.
  • Four-year bachelor's degree or two-year associate's degree in survey related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ project management experience, preferably 5 years with mentoring and training experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge in land surveying as well as field experience with surveying subdivisions, commercial properties, institutional and industrial projects.
  • Experience in construction related survey computations and staking plans – such as erosion control, utility, grading and storm drainage and building layout.
  • Experience preparing topo survey, boundary, and ALTA/ACSM survey maps as well as Plats, easement exhibits, researching records, writing legal descriptions and investigating property history; developing scope and fee proposals and managing projects.
  • Must have solid working knowledge of AutoCAD, Carlson, GIS mapping and MS Office Suite

Responsibilities:

We are seeking a Crew Chief to join our Geomatics Group in our Durham/RTP office location.  
 

 Qualifications:
  • Five (5) or more years’ experience as a Crew Chief in construction staking and/or surveying preferred
  • Knowledge of TDS Software, Trimble Robotics, GPS equipment
  • CAD experience preferred
  • Must have a valid NC driver’s license

  Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Must be able to manage and mentor field personnel to ensure that project objectives are met under budget and in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate an ability to prepare proper filed notes and manage field data files in a manner that they can be easily interpreted and cyphered by office support staff. Turns in notes and field files daily
  • Maintain good client relations to foster and perpetuate a long term relationship
