Description

Supervise a crew of 2 and sometimes 3 persons in the field of surveying. 

Duties

1)    Supervise, coordinate, direct and participate in activities related to construction surveying.

2)    Review plans, plats, legal descriptions and CAD files to perform surveying duties.

3)    Perform surveying calculations for construction and boundary surveying projects.

4)    Actively participate in field survey work performed by Survey Instrument Operators and Survey Technicians to include operating survey instruments, acting as Chainman/Rodman etc. and other related surveying tasks.

5)    Calculate and Verify field data computations and prepare detailed and neat field notes of surveys.

6)    Investigate and resolve routine technical and operational field issues.

7)    Develop and implement work procedures to assure complete, accurate and timely completion of survey projects

8)    Maintain good client relationships.

9)    Maintain detailed record keeping of duties performed. 

Responsibilities

1)    Maintain a professional attitude and appearance.

2)    Maintain safety procedures implemented by supervision.

3)    Maintain equipment to insure safe and proper use.

4)    Abide by rules and regulations set forth by State and Federal agencies as well as contractors.

City of Norfolk's Department of Public Works is seeking an Assistant City Surveyor to manage
and coordinate the daily operations of land survey field crews and to assist the City Surveyor

The Assistant City Surveyor will be responsible for updating and maintaining city horizontal and
vertical control systems. Responsibilities include giving recommendations concerning property

Departmental Hiring Salary Range: $56,314 to $64,760
 
Essential Functions: Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
  • Manages and coordinates the daily operations of land survey field crews.
  • Prepares and verifies computations and ensures the accuracy of collected field data and
  • prepared drawings.
  • Updates and maintains horizontal and vertical control systems by performing complex

Education/Experience
  • Work requires specialized knowledge in a professional or technical field. Work requires

  • degree-level of study.
  • Five years experience as a Registered Land Surveyor.
  • The preferred candidate will be:
  • Proficient in computer aided drafting.
  • Experienced in the use of GPS and conventional land survey instruments in the use of
  • virtual reference networks and in performing static GPS surveys.
  • Knowledgeable of control network guidelines.

EMH&T is currently looking for a Crew Chief to work with our Survey team based in our Charlotte, NC office.

Using a broad array of surveying methods and equipment, organizes and maintains efficiency of the field survey crew in completing specific tasks for private and public clients.

The position will make accurate measurements and delineate property boundaries; gather data relevant to specific land features, including shape, contour, location, elevation and dimension for the preparation of ALTA and boundary surveys; accurately record and convey this information for use in engineering, mapping, construction; and perform basic survey calculations.

This role has lead responsibility to manage field crew while being actively involved in the accurate recording and calculations of field data; provide instruction and development of field crew members to ensure accuracy and accountability of the team; and respond appropriately to inquiries about survey projects or presence of survey teams to clients, contractors, utility or municipal personnel or property owners.

Qualified candidates will have a High School diploma or equivalent.  Five (5) years experience with boundary and topographic surveys, ALTA/ACSM land title surveys and construction staking.  Working knowledge of data collection. Land surveying including the use of data collection, robotic and conventional total stations and GPS, preferred.

  • Ability to plan, organize, assign, motivate and evaluate the work of others.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, maps and property descriptions.

Rodman - Charlotte, NC

EMH&T is currently looking for a Rodman to work with our Survey team based in our Charlotte, NC office. This is a full-time position that pays $17/hour.

Under the direction of the Crew Chief or Surveyor, the Rodman will assist with the survey tasks in the field. Responsibilities include staking out and elevating survey points. Performs maintenance of certain equipment and maintains supplies for the survey crew. The Rodman will be given direction and will assist with other various field duties in the process of data collection.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED. No experience is required although previous experience with construction staking is a plus. Must be willing to work overtime and occasionally work out of town, overnight when needed. Overnight travel includes a per diem.

Instrument Operator - Charlotte, NC

EMH&T is currently looking for an Instrument Operator to work with our Survey team based in our Charlotte, NC office. This is a full-time position that pays $18/hour.

Under the direction of the Crew Chief, the Instrument Operator will support the land survey process by physically assisting with the acquisition of survey data points and construction layout. Duties involve obtaining land survey data, such as angles, elevations, points, and contours using Trimble Robotic & GPS equipment. Responsibilities may include compiling notes and records of survey data obtained and work performed. Occasional overnight travel, which includes a per diem allowance. Responsibilities may also include assisting with other physical efforts required to complete a land survey at the development site.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED. Experience: 2-3 years of land surveying including the use of data collection, robotic & conventional total stations and GPS, preferred. Construction staking experience a plus. Must be able to carry approximately 30 lbs. consistently throughout the day. Must be willing to work overtime and occasionally work out of town, overnight when needed. Overnight travel includes a per diem.

Providing landscape architecture, civil engineering & surveying services, from the beginning to end of land development. MLA has recently acquired Brady Surveying, combining our experience and knowledge over 40 years. Our team consists of 16 diversely skilled individuals, of which, 6 are professionally licensed in their fields.  Our firm is built on the core values of honesty, hard work, creativity, integrity and trust.

Currently, we are seeking to grow our team with the following position:

Field Crew Land Surveyor – Winston Salem, NC

Duties:

  • Report to work on time
  • Responsible directly for aspects of surveying work performed for Surveying Department at MLADesign Group, Inc.
  • Take direction from Upper Management for daily task/projects
  • Responsible for redlining/reviewing work falling under the discipline of surveying.
  • Tracking billable/non-billable hours on a daily basis.
  • Work independently and stay well organized while handling multiple and competing priorities
  • Work in field environment and communicating with clients on site.
  • Convey a positive and professional image to internal and external contacts
  • Ensure good client and office relations by excellent verbal and written communication
  • Reporting changes in field to upper management
  • Reporting equipment needs/malfunctions in the field
  • Reporting client requests to upper management before execution
  • After appropriate training, maintain proficiency with software and hardware technology provided by the company for your use.
  • Be proficient in field procedures for topographic surveying and mapping.
  • Read and understand Architectural, Structural and Engineering Site Plan
  • Keep a Valid Driver’s License

CAD Tech – Winston Salem, NC

Duties:

  • Responsible for detailed design and taking projects from start to finish based on the comments/directions from Upper Management
  • Prepare/review reports and maps through redlining process
  • Responsible for file management of AutoCAD files and other documents
  • Responsible for compliance with company CAD standard within the scope of assigned projects
  • Responsible for mentoring and collaborating with other CAD designers
  • Tracking billable/non-billable hours on a daily basis
  • Work independently and stay well organized while handling multiple and competing priorities in an efficiently high volume, deadline driven office environment
  • Convey a positive and professional image to internal and external contacts
  • Ensure good client and office relations by excellent verbal and written communication via email/phone.
  • Research property ownership for deeds, plats, easements, dedications and other burdens or benefits at local County Recorder offices and online.
  • Request information from title companies, highway departments, municipalities & etc. that relate to property being surveyed and adding information to CAD drawing.
  • Prepare Construction, Subdivision, ALTA, Boundary, Topographic and Special Surveys, Legal descriptions, and Surveying exhibits to fit client needs.
  • Manage CAD generated surface models and generate accurate contours, cross sections, and profile drawings
  • Read and understand Architectural, Structural and Engineering Plans
  • Experience with AutoCAD2010 or higher is required; knowledge/experience in Carlson Civil/Surveying software; Microsoft Office & Adobe software are preferred. Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or Land Development Desktop will be considered.
  • Associates degree or higher in surveying technology/drafting/design in preferred
  • Keep a Valid Driver’s License

Land Survey Party Chief – Winston Salem, NC

Duties:

  • Reports to work on time & self-motivated
  • Ensure good client and office relations by excellent verbal and written communication
  • Routine communication with upper management
  • Take instructions and follow directions from upper management
  • Responsible for leading crew to execute field surveys accurately and efficiently to deliver work on time to clients and upper management
  • Responsible for training crew members on the use of surveying equipment, surveying and safety procedures.
  • Responsible for redlining/reviewing work falling under the discipline of surveying.
  • Identify opportunities for new business ventures/partnerships.
  • Tracking billable/non-billable hours on a daily basis.
  • Strong work ethic; handling multiple and competing priorities, while staying well organized & accurate
  • Work in field/office environment; work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Convey a positive and professional image to internal and external contacts
  • Data collection, field notes and calculations.
  • After appropriate training, maintain proficiency with software and hardware technology provided by the company for your use.
  • Ensure survey equipment is correctly operated and maintained
  • Safely use hand tools and cutting implements
  • Be proficient in field procedures for construction staking, as-built s, ALTA, topographic, boundary and subdivision surveying.
  • Read and understand Architectural, Structural and Engineering Plans
  • Keep a Valid Driver’s License
  • Candidates for this position must have verifiable land surveying experience as follows: minimum of 3 years of total surveying experience, and a minimum of 1 year of experience as a party chief. Please do not apply unless you can meet these requirements.

We currently have open positions for a Professional Land Surveyor in our Raleigh, NC office and our Greenville, NC office.  These positions provide the opportunity to be an essential part of the growth of our geomatics practice in Raleigh and Greenville while also being an integral participant in the continued growth of our firm.

The primary role of this position includes the following responsibilities for providing services to external clients and supporting internal multi-disciplinary project teams:

  • Manage project related research and reconnaissance
  • Manage project field activities
  • Perform and manage project computations in accordance with statutory and standardized procedures
  • Prepare and manage preparation of project deliverables including certified professional reports and maps in hard copy and digital format prepared in accordance with statutory and standardized procedures
  • Provide recommendations for continued refinement and collective implementation of high quality and efficient geomatics practice processes, including the use of emerging technologies

The qualifications of the successful candidate for this position include:

  • NC Professional Land Surveyor (required)
  • Minimum of 5 years land surveying field experience performing property, topographic, route and construction surveys
  • Minimum of Associate’s Degree in relative field or comparable related experience
  • Comprehensive grasp of survey field data processing
  • Fundamental understanding of GNSS technology
  • Proven performance of property boundary research, computations, and platting
  • Proven competence with industry standard computer-aided drafting software
  • Proficiency in MicroSoft Office application suite including MS Word and MS Excel
  • Proven experience with construction plan interpretation and staking plan preparation
  • Demonstrated ability to be a team player
  • Demonstrated attitude to grow personally and professionally in a mutually rewarding culture
