Survey CADD Technician - Raleigh, NC 

Assist Professional Surveyor and Mapper in application of principles, methods, and techniques of Surveying. 

Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to) the following: 

  • Basic calculations for field crews.
  • Review and verify accuracy of bench runs.
  • Review and compare crew field book information to final maps.
  • Prepare sketch and descriptions from field collected data.
  • Perform processing for utilizing GPS processing software.
  • Assist in preparation of Right-of-way Control Maps.
  • Assist in preparation of Right-of -way Maps.
  • Extract topographic features form LiDAR point clouds not required but would be a plus.
  • Process survey data using NCDOT Workspace.
  • Complete project logs and time sheets daily.
  • Research for projects on line or at local and or state agencies.
  • Utilize Standards of Practice and/or NCDOT checklist for product preparation.
  • Analyze deeds and research materials for production of survey and mapping products.
  • Assist in Quality Control of field collected data for submittals. 
  • Preparation of survey estimates, surveyor’s reports, and meeting minutes.
  • Produce survey exhibits to support man hour estimates.

Requirements for position: 

  • Proficient in NCDOT Geopak, MicroStation preferred.
  • Assist team with field reviews for Quality Control of Survey & Mapping products.
  • General knowledge of NCDOT surveying/mapping procedures.

Description of Duties:
Performs skilled computer-aided mapping and surveying and performs record keeping as it relates to municipal engineering; does related work as required. Produces and maintains municipal maps and records. Assists the City Surveyor in performing various surveys such as property, topographic, and construction surveys. Reviews subdivision plats, street construction plans, and building permits for compliance with specific municipal ordinances. Department work is directed by the city engineer.

Responsibilities: 
Maintains computer and hardcopy maps and lists relating to water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, floodplain, city limits, street lights, cemetery, zoning, easements, and others; assists in surveying by running instruments, taking field notes, computing closure, pulling chain, holding rod, driving stakes; operates GPS equipment, total station, data collector, automatic level, plotter, distance measuring instrument; makes lettering and graphic illustrations of signs, charts, graphs, and diagrams; locates city cemetery plots; orders department office supplies; provides information and responds to requests from public and private agencies including other city departments and the general public.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities: 
Extensive knowledge of computer-aided mapping, land surveying, and related software and equipment; knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and Topcon equipment and software preferred. 

Physical Requirements: 
Work in this class is medium and requires good physical endurance.  Physical activity will include but is not limited to stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, and speaking normally.  The employee is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions including extreme heat and cold; traffic and construction site hazards; and may be exposed to atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system such as fumes and dust.  The employee must have the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, read a computer terminal, and use fine measurement devices.

Survey CAD Technician is needed in our Statesville N.C. office. Associate degree or higher in surveying technology/geomatics, civil engineering, or related field and/or registration as a SIT preferred, but not required.  5+ years’ experience in land surveying preferred. This position reports to the Survey Manager, his delegates, and is responsible for operation of various types of survey equipment for field survey efforts. Hours will vary dependent upon workloads and project needs. This position based from our Kennesaw location, but extensive and long term southeastern regional travel will be required.

Requirements:

Licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor in Tennessee is required.
5+ years of progressive experience in surveying management in
residential/commercial development preferred. Candidate will be expected
to possess strong self-motivational and organizational skills,
experience with survey computations and platting using Trimble Business
Center, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and ArcGIS as well as field experience with
Trimble Survey field equipment. Computer skills involve survey data
management using Trimble or Android devices. Experience with Microsoft

Plan, organize and supervise survey crews, technicians and other staff members.  Manage projects, interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments.  Schedule and assign work to meet completion date.  Plan and develop surveying projects with unique or controversial problems, explore subject area, investigate and develop novel concepts and approaches.  Supervise the crew’s use of equipment, preparation of sketches & notes, and electronic data collection & download.  Prepare daily time sheets, data logs, expense reports and field change orders.  Participate in Survey Department and/or crew training.  Review, analyze and process a variety of complicated survey data calculations including design data, layouts, worksheets, stakeouts, plat preparation and process.
