Engineering Technician Assistant - Carrboro/ Chapel Hill, NC - (Part-time Temporary)

Position Summary
Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA), a progressive water utility providing water, wastewater and reclaimed water services to the Towns of  Chapel Hill, Carrboro and to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, seeks qualified candidates to fill a Part-time Temporary Engineering Technician Assistant. This assignment would require 24 hours per week for approximately 40 weeks. 

Position will assist in collecting locational and attribute data for GIS mapping system updates. This assignment will also include office work performing data entry into GIS along with other related projects. 

Qualifications
Desired traits include strong communication skills, attention to detail, highly accurate, organized, and self-motivated. Previous experience using Windows, Microsoft Office and ARC GIS are required. Requires the ability to read deeds of easements, plats, and electronic maps. Background in related field such as engineering or surveying are preferred. Ability to work outside occasionally while carrying survey equipment. Position requires moderate walking and standing for extended periods of time. Position is subject to outside weather conditions.

Transportation Construction Surveyor - Asheville NC 

We are currently seeking a full-time Transportation Construction Surveyor to join our Construction Engineering Inspection (CEI) team.  Because of ongoing work with the NCDOT, we have full-time career opportunities for the following position in Asheville, North Carolina.

Engineering-Technician Surveyor 

This position requires experience and knowledge of running a total station instrument.  You should have knowledge of route surveying and the ability to learn MicroStation.  You will perform surveying duties under the supervision of a higher-level technician.  You will keep records of daily operations on roadway construction projects staking drainage, curb and gutter, structures, cross-sections and alignments.  This position may also assist with inspection of construction operations depending on workload. Your responsibilities may include inspection for compliance with plans, contracts, specifications and standards; collection and analysis of field data for work completed or record-keeping; sampling and testing of materials.  In this position, you would acquire the experience and certifications necessary to progress in your career.

You may be needed to work around high volumes of traffic, to work at heights over water or traffic, and to climb on roadway structures.  You must be capable of working on steep or rough terrain and lifting at least 50 pounds.  You may need to work high above the ground carefully, to operate a motor vehicle safely, and to show precision in record keeping.       

The Transportation Construction Surveyor position does require an Associate Degree in an applicable area of Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  You will need a NC Driver’s License with a clean driving record.  You will not be required to be a registered surveyor.  You will be required to have experience in the surveying field.  You must also have the ability and knowledge to learn more involved surveying skills in transportation route surveying.

For this position, you should also be able to document findings and to convey information orally and in writing to establish positive communication with higher-level engineers.  You should be able to apply safety to all operations.  You should be able to analyze and interpret construction plans while evaluating and applying engineering judgment to plan interpretation.  You should demonstrate a working knowledge and understanding of highway construction concepts and practices, including those of NCDOT standards and specifications related to road and structure construction.  

TGS offers very competitive wages and a great benefits package.
