Major Duties and Responsibilities

This position is one of nine Survey Party Chief positions within the Engineering & Property Management's Survey/Mapping Section. Plans, directs and supervises the work of a field survey crew in locating points, establishing boundaries, topographic work, and construction stake-out; establishes line and grades for roads, bridges, culverts and storm drains; trains and evaluates performance of survey crew members; establishes controls and right-of-way monuments; set stakes for critical slopes and sub-grades.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma/GED combined with three (3) years related work experience or equivalent combination of education, work experience, and relevant industry/job specific knowledge, skills, and/or certifications may be considered.  Prefer a minimum of five (5) years of experience including supervisory experience and a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Description of Work

Performs responsible technical information technology and administrative work to produce and update the Geographic Information System (GIS) tax maps and GIS data for the County. An employee in this class is responsible for technical work in researching and gathering records. The employee performs data entry, plots parcels from, deed descriptions and survey maps, determines road frontages and rights-of-way, assigns parcel identification numbers and generates maps for the County utilizing the GIS data base. This position will be located in our Charleston, S.C. office. 5 - 10 years’ experience in land surveying preferred. Position requires comprehensive knowledge conventional, robotic and GPS surveying functions including static, fast static, RTK, and VRS. Experience with Trimble data collection, GPS receivers, and robotic total stations required. Various types of Route surveying as well as SUE skills and utility mapping experience a plus. Computer skills involved in the submittal of daily files including downloading of data, preparation/organization of field sketches & digital photographs, completion of daily checklists & timesheets, and vehicle navigation are required. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Navigation programs and Trimble Data Transfer a plus. Must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company's driving (MVR) policy. Survey Manager
Survey Manager is needed for oversight of surveying projects for the Charlotte Metro area. This position will be based in Charleston, SC.

Responsibilities:
Responsible charge of all aspects of a surveying and geomatics group (field and office) consisting of several field crews and supporting technical staff involved with public and private sector land improvement projects. Initiate and maintain contact with key personnel and officials of organizations and companies. Plan, organize and supervise survey crews, technicians and other staff members. Administer contracts and manage projects, interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments. Schedule and assign work to meet completion date. Plan and develop surveying projects with unique or controversial problems, explore subject area, investigate and develop novel concepts and approaches.
 
Requirements:
Licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor in North and South Carolina required. 5 - 10 years of progressive experience in surveying management in residential/commercial development preferred. Candidate will be expected to possess strong self-motivational and organizational skills, experience with survey computations and platting using Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and ArcGIS as well as field experience with Trimble Survey field equipment. Computer skills involve survey data management using Trimble or Android devices. Experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Google Earth and IT a plus. Thorough working knowledge of GPS required. Must pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company's driving (MVR) policy.

Survey Crew Chief
ESP has immediate openings for experienced Survey Crew Chief in our Cornelius, NC office location.
Essential duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include, but are not limited to:
o Oversees the day to day field survey operations to provide accurate data for boundary/ALTA, topographic, construction staking, utility as-built and wetland surveys.
o Oversees and trains individuals to operate Trimble robotic total stations, GPS and data collectors and other survey equipment for use in the collection of survey data.
o Responsible for establishing control and performing construction stakeout as well as storing stakeout data.
o Provides clear and concise field notes (including sketches).
o Good written and verbal communication skills required.
o Oversees daily maintenance of survey equipment, supplies and vehicle.
o Candidate must be able to work in a team environment, and also be willing to work independently as needed.
Skills/Requirements of a successful candidate include, but are not limited to:
o High school diploma/GED and 4 to 6 years of field survey experience.
o Experience with Trimble S6, S7 or S8 Robotic Total Station, TSC3 Data Collector and Trimble GPS R8/R10 preferred.
o Ability to collect field data in an organized, neat and professional manner for various boundary, topographic, design and construction staking projects.
o Knowledge of boundary retracement, topographic & ALTA/NSPS surveys and construction layout experience.
o The ability to compute, process and map field data will provide the right candidate opportunity and advancement.
o AutoCAD/Civil 3D experience a plus.
o Skills in field data collection, good math skills and ability to work as a one man crew as necessary.
o Ability to travel through the week as the projects require.
o Valid Driver's License, good work ethic, reliability, able to lift up to 50 pounds, able to work more than 40 hours a week as necessary.
