He earned his BS and MS in Surveying and Mapping and his doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at East Tennessee State University. He received his PLS in 1993 and has over 21 years of experience in the private and public sectors. William E. Beardslee, PE, PLS, PP is a licensed Professional Land Surveyor, Engineer, and Planner with over 45 years of experience in the field of land development. He is known for his excellent presentation and writing capabilities, along with being one of the leading technical experts on land development in the engineering and surveying arena. He has made over 2,000 presentations on engineering and surveying projects to local and state agencies. Prior to his retirement, he was the owner and Director of Engineering for Beardslee Engineering Associates in Sparta, NJ. Steve Amos, PLS, CFS is a North Carolina Professional Land Surveyor with more than 25 years of comprehensive land surveying experience, including 15 years managing Geomatics operations on a number of significant surveying projects across the state. His experience extends to survey staff management, survey compliance programs, and survey quality control in both the private and public sector markets. His specialties include overseeing survey operations, including ALTA, boundary, topographic, route, as-built, and construction surveys throughout North Carolina. He is also experienced in SUE and UAV surveys. Steve is a licensed Remote Pilot – sUAS Airman with the Federal Aviation Administration and is a Certified Floodplain Surveyor. He has served on the Gaston County Park and Recreation Advisory Board for over a decade. Outside of work, Steve enjoys spending time with his family, serving his community with his church, and being a Kansas City Barbecue Society Certified Master Judge. He has participated in over 80 contests in 11 states. Gary Thompson, PLS is the Deputy Risk Management Chief, North Carolina Emergency Management/Risk Management and Chief of the North Carolina Geodetic Survey/Risk Management/NC Emergency Management. He has held a professional license as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in North Carolina since 1980. He has served as president of both the North Carolina Society of Surveyors (NCSS) and the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS). Gary is an emeritus member of the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors (NCBEES), and a commission member of the ABET Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission. |

This course will help you understand a recession and how to prepare to ride out the storm while still maintaining your business. It will cover everything from understanding the economics of a recession and give you tools to survive an economic downturn. Of course, this is not as easy as it sounds, but you will have the tools to control the outcome.
Surveying is an old and honorable profession, and we are going back in time to when, how, and why surveying started. We are also going to explore what happened to American manufacturers. At one point, there were over 50 surveying instrument manufacturers in the United States, and today, there are no manufacturers of surveying instruments. The only manufacturer today in the United States is Trimble, who of course, manufacturers GPS
Mr. Nixon will share his expertise in leveraging cutting-edge technologies—such as laser scanning, precision metrology, and unmanned aerial systems—to tackle complex project challenges. With over 15 years of international experience in heavy industry and a surveying license since 2000, he brings a wealth of knowledge to the discussion. He will also outline the best practices he has honed throughout his career, which have consistently ensured reliable, repeatable results across diverse projects. Instructors: Robert Bailey studied engineering and land surveying at Southern Technical Institute and then spent several years working in the construction industry before getting into sales at Lietz (now Sokkia). He has an Associate of Business Management degree from The Center for Degree Studies in Scranton, PA. He has over 40 years of experience in land surveying equipment sales and sales team/company management. After retiring from Carlson Software, he began helping companies institute and organize sales teams, develop training programs, and manage extensive sales and support staff. Kristian Nixon, As Senior Survey Project Manager for Fleming Engineering, Kris Nixon, PLS, has a unique specialty in industrial measurement with a particular focus on laser scanning and dimensional control in heavy industry plant works and “Building Information Modeling.” As a licensed North Carolina professional land surveyor since 2000, Mr. Nixon has over 10 years of experience in 3D laser scanning. Having lived abroad from 2002-2010, he is a former Director of the United Kingdom’s Warner Land Surveys Ltd. Throughout his career, he has completed large-scale surveying and scanning projects worldwide. Before Meridian 3D’s 2014 corporate separation from Meridian Associates, Inc., Mr. Nixon served as the Principal of the latter’s Laser Scanning Division. Mr. Nixon is also on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Society of Surveyors as the President of the Guilford Chapter. |
