Instructor
Doug Suttles, PLS Doug assumed leadership of Suttles Surveying in 2016 but began his career in 1990 after obtaining an Associate Degree of Applied Science in Surveying Technology from Coastal Carolina Community College. He has been involved with surveying since 1986 and his expertise includes data management and output from AutoCAD and various software packages as well as information technology management. Doug has served as a Council member of the North Carolina Electronic Recordation Council for 10+ years as well as being a member of the following associations and boards. The North Carolina Society of Surveyors (Foothills Chapter President), Director of the North Carolina Society of Surveyors Education Foundation, Member of Western Piedmont Community College Advisory Panel, Member of the North Carolina Society of Surveyors Education Enhancement Committee, Chairman of the McDowell County Utility Coordinator Council (UCC) and is the co-chairman of the Burke/Caldwell Utilities Coordination Committee. |

Dr. Jerry Nave, PLS Jerry is an assistant professor of Geomatics at NC A&T State University where he teaches courses in boundary location and legal principles, land systems, geodetic surveying, satellite positioning, ethics and professionalism and subdivision design. He earned his BS and MS in Surveying and Mapping and his doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at East Tennessee State University. He received his PLS in 1993 and has over 21 years of experience in the private and public sectors. |

Instructors
James (Jeff) I. Jeffreys III, PLS Jeff grew up in the Wilmington area. He went to UNC-Wilmington for two years and transferred to UNC-Charlotte for engineering. He worked two summers for the Location & Surveys Unit (L&S) of NCDOT. He left school in January 1989 and went to work full-time at L&S in Charlotte. In 2014, he was promoted to Locating Engineer for a new L&S office in Shelby where he currently works. He is also an adjunct instructor at Central Piedmont Community College teaching Surveying Law since 2007. He became licensed as a PLS in NC in 1996. In 2005, he received an AAS in Surveying Technology from CPCC. He is licensed as a PLS in NC & SC and as a PE in NC.
Trent J. Keenan, PLS, WRS, CFedS Trent's surveying career started when he was 19 and now spans over twenty-five (28) years, including ten (10) years in the public sector working for a large utility company, and fifteen (18) years in the private sector, with 15 of the 18 years being the President / Founder of Diamondback Land Surveying. He has served through all officers positions of both the Southern Chapter and State Association of NALS (Nevada Association of Land Surveyors), received the Meritorious Service Award for NALS in 2013, and was honored as the NALS Surveyor of the Year (2015) as well as receiving the Von Schimt Award for 2021 and a Presidential Citation from NSPS for his work on the NSPS Workforce Development Committee in 2023. He is a past-President of NALS (2015), Current, Editor of The Nevada Traverse Publication (NALS), Current Secretary/ Treasurer for the WestFed (The Western Federation of Professional Surveyors ) Board and current Director from NALS, Current Secretary on The Nevada Land Surveyors Education Foundation Board (NLSEF), Current President on the Southern Nevada Chapter of the NALS, Moderator/ Facilitator/ Founder of Mentoring Mondays & Wisdom Wednesdays for the Land Surveying Profession, Moderator/ Facilitator for Round Table Tuesdays, and a proud sponsor and brand ambassador for Get Kids Into Survey (GKiS) as well as President for the West Coast Get Kids Into Survey Franchise. He is currently licensed in 5 Western States (Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah & Washington). He is also a Certified Federal Surveyor and a Nevada Water Rights Surveyor. He has been an active board member in NALS since 2007 and a regular member since 1997.

Instructor
Shane Strickland, PLS Shane began surveying in the fall of 1996 and gained his licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor in the Spring of 2007. He attended Wake Technical Community College, obtaining an Associate in Applied Science in Surveying Technology. Throughout the past twenty-seven years, he has been able to survey along the eastern seaboard from Pennsylvania to Florida and as far west as Texas, performing multiple industrial, commercial, and residential projects. Shane was the 2018 NCSS Shining Star Award recipient and received a service award in 2023 for his work with the Education Foundation. He is currently serving as President of the Johnston County Chapter, the NCSS PAC Chairman, and a member of the Executive Committee. Shane lives in Pine Level, North Carolina, with his wife BettyMae. They enjoy camping, hiking, hobby farming, and being outside in their free time. |
